19 months- you just became a little boy!
I get it- we are innately competitive species. I see all my wonderful mother friends, we ask one another questions about our children growing older, tricks, trades, and any right passage to make parenthood easier. A drop of reassurance that this will be easy- nope! None of this is easy, but none of this is ugly. All these small but huge moments of our son or daughter’s life at this very stage are IMPACTFUL! They are bigger than when you are 40 years old. I just do not know how to explain it, only that I know it.
At 19 months, you look like a little baby, but you are a small kid waiting to take on the world. All I can hope for every Sunday while we go to church is that you are you, but a good version of you. I mean you are a Betts, you are a Conroy- you must be.
This month you are 19 months and each little moment you discover something it is an explosive reaction. The feelings at this age you are feeling are so major, Jack. I want you to know your mommy understands this. I really do. I mean to be growing, understanding, verbally trying, and still figuring it all out must be hard. I want you to know I get it. Well, you may have bits and pieces of this in your head but let me tell you some of the things you did this month.
- You learned how to play with all your cars down the race tracks and let me tell you- this was life for you! When you figured out how fast cars go, you were fascinated.
- Each time we go to dinner at this point it is a struggle. I beg you to eat your food, you do for a moment only to bargain with me for my phone. Hmmmm who wins? Damn you Elmo.
- We were at a bar, yup we took you to bars. You picked up the crayons and paper- you went for it. You were drawing. At 19 months.
- We had a very long outing Sunday, we came home for a snack- you insisted on the yogurt. I gave you a spoon and the yogurt. You just decided to start feeding yourself properly with the spoon. I was just shocked.
- Garbage trucks are your jam at the moment- FYI.
- I took you out of the bath one night this February and dressed you, brushed your hair, and brushed your teeth- you turned to me and said, “All Clean”. My heart skipped with happiness.
- Flashcards are a cinch- you literally know every card. Your favorites just so you know are; CAR (I mean), Little Girl, and Apple. Hmmmmm
- You learned the Elmo Slide and got Dizzy.
- Park is the most fun with you- tiring, but fun. You love slides. You are over the swings.
- You still go crazy of Fruit and at this age can say “Black Berry”.
