The First Essentials

By December 11, 2015 No Comments

The first trimester is week 1- 13, that is the first through third month. It is normal to not show during this time period. It is the most crucial for fetal development. Most women have the worst pregnancy symptoms during these weeks. On the average 1 out of 3 women claim to have nausea, fatigue, and breast tenderness.

I am very blessed to say I am writing this entry in the first week of my second trimester and I have not had any debilitating pregnancy symptoms. My mother said that she was barely able to go to work due to her nausea. Here below are my first trimester essentials due to the symptoms my little nugget gave me.

  1. Pillows- I wanted and still want nothing more than my bed and cozy pillows. I have such extreme fatigue. I know the doctor says limit coffee, but my goodness. Maintaining two jobs and having this fatigue is unreal. I was always that person who went to bed at midnight (earliest), and woke right up at 6am to get the day started. FORGET IT- 10pm -8am tops! Oh and there may be a little afternoon siesta in there. ZZzzzz is all I see in the Alphabet.
  2. Toilet Paper- Charmin is my best friend! I swear one of the reasons I knew I was pregnant ( in addition to the missed menstrual cycle) was I was peeing about 4 times in 1 hour.
  3. Water Bottle- I have never drank more water in my 38 years. Literally! I know we are supposed to drink 8 glasses pre-knocked up, but man let me tell you. I drink close to 10 glasses a day. It keeps the fatigue and headache down.
  4. Fruit/ Milk- Here folks are my first and most powerful cravings. I am living off of cut fruit and Fage Yogurt. It is has berries, pineapples, bananas, or milk in it. It is mine!
  5. Prenatals– we will revisit this convo, but yes, I am sort of obsessed with my vitamins. ( See why in a later post)
  6. Victoria Secret-I do understand why sometimes half this crazy nation is obsessed with this over socialized brand. They have great bras. The other symptom other than fatigue which was most pronounced for me during the first trimester and is STILL going- is the enlargement of my damn boobs. They hurt, they itch, they are bigger than my own body. There are just no words.
  7. Color Wow– I clearly remember my doctor saying to ” You can not color your hair- sorry”. I simply replied back and said ” Doc I have greys”. Well you can see where this is going…. Ladies no hair coloring first trimester. Get Color Wow. It is a necessity.
  8. Journal- I write down everything I eat, drink, or consume-  I have been since day one. I also like to write down my husband’s doings and the reactions of friends when I tell them I am pregnant.
  9. Wine- yup still want it!
  10. Moisturizer- I am obsessed with Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar moisturizer, but I have had to rotate here because anything I put on me is given to my baby. So I like to rotate in between two moisturizers. ( See why in a later post)
